Salem church delivers 800 bikes to Houston kids affected by hurricane

SALEM, Va. – Hundreds of Houston area kids will now have new bikes, thanks to a church in Salem.

Since the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, members of the CommUNITY Church have been collecting hundreds of bikes because they wanted to make sure the kids impacted by the storm receive a special Christmas gift.

This week, those bikes are being delivered to families in need in Houston. Members of the church, including the pastor, are visiting 20 Houston area elementary and middle schools to deliver the bikes.

"Some of them have never ridden a bike. It's amazing to us to see and hear the stories of the devastation," said Thomas McCracken, pastor of CommUNITY Church.

The church collected 800 bikes. Church members will be delivering the bikes for the next two days and then will head back home.
