Driver identified in fatal crash after tractor-trailer runs off Rt. 58, hits house near Galax

No one living in the home at the time of the crash

GALAX, Va. – State police say a tractor-trailer ran off the road and hit a house near Galax on Friday morning.

The driver, Johnathan D. Harding, 40, of Jacksonville, Florida, is dead, although it's not clear if he died as a result of the crash or had a medical emergency before the crash as the tractor-trailer's brakes were not used, according to police.

It happened around 10 a.m. The tractor-trailer ran off of Route 58 West close to the 6000 block of Carrollton Pike. That is a couple of miles east of Galax near Hills Trucking.

No one was living in the home at the time of the crash.

A neighbor, David Hancock who lives two doors down said his home was hit by a  Pepsi truck about two years ago. This is the third time a home on this block has been hit by a vehicle.

The road is only feet away from homes on that block.

House has been condemned and the building is starting to sink into the basement.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
