1st and 10 Trophy Tour: Christiansburg’s Tanner Evans

Blue Demons star scored three times in key River Ridge win

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – We’ve dubbed him the area’s ‘Swiss Army Knife’ for his versatility on the football field. Christiansburg’s Tanner Evans did it all in Week 11 against district rival Pulaski County. Evans rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown and threw for two others in the win. He also pulled double duty in the defensive secondary.

10 Sports Brooke Leonard traveled to the home of the Blue Demons to hand over the hardware. The WSLS 1st and 10 Trophy Tour honors the junior star who led his team to a region 3D title and the state Class 3 semifinals.

”A lot went right for me and the team, we knew we had to win that game(vs Pulaski Co) to knock them out of the playoffs, so it motivated us more to win that game,” Evans explained.

His head coach, Alex Wilkens, explained the strength of having Evans on the field in pressure situations.

“The ability to pick up game plan really quickly. When you have someone out there on the field that can do that allows us to do a lot of things. He executed our offense really well that game, we were able to do what we needed to do to score enough points and win that game. And a lot of that is because of his ability from the intelligent, physical standpoint and running our offense,” Wilkens said.

Evans was named to the VHSL Class 3 All-State second team at both running back and defensive back this season.
