Northside surges past GW Danville 80-42 on the hardwoods

ROANOKE, Va. – In boys high school hoops, two of the best teams in the area squared off--GW Danville at Northside.

There’s some familiarity between the two programs. The Eagles are led by Demarcus Morris who is in his first year at the helm. He was head coach for last years Tunstall’s team that played Northside in the region final and state semifinal.

The game started in a back-and-forth match-up with GW Danville leading 18-16 after the first quarter. Xavier Cobbs had his own 6-0 run. But Northside fought back, outscoring the Eagles 20-7 in the second quarter behind timely shots from Cy Hardy and Mykell Harvey. In the second half, it was no letup from the Vikings who surged to a commanding 80-42 victory. Northside improved to an 18-1 record.
