A Georgetown University scholar from India has been released from immigration detention after he was arrested in the Trump administration’s crackdown on foreign college students.

A federal judge says that a Georgetown scholar’s petition challenging the constitutionality of his arrest will stay in a Virginia court, where it was initially filed.

The U.S. government has been using its immigration enforcement powers since President Trump took office to crack down on international students and scholars who had participated in pro-Palestinian demonstrations or criticized Israel over its military action in Gaza.

A federal judge has ordered immigration officials not to deport a Georgetown University scholar that the government detained until the court has had a chance to rule.
