JPMorgan launching digital retail bank in UK, looking overseas for growth

JPMorgan Chase & Co. is an American multinational investment bank and financial services holding company headquartered in New York. JPMorgan Chase is taking a page from the digital disruptors. The project could also ultimately inform how JPMorgan manages its network of 4,908 retail branches in the U.S., the person said. In recent years, reports that JPMorgan was working on a secretive project in the U.K. emerged after the bank listed job openings there for technical positions. In 2019, TechCrunch reported that the bank was in the early stages of creating a retail digital bank in Britain after shuttering a similar offering in the U.S. called Finn.

Jamie Dimon discharged from hospital and 'doing very well,' JPMorgan tells staff

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon was discharged from a hospital Thursday, one week after he underwent emergency heart surgery. "We are delighted to share with you the good news that Jamie left the hospital today and is back at home," the bank's co-presidents, Gordon Smith and Daniel Pinto, said Thursday in a staff memo. JPMorgan, the biggest U.S. bank by assets, has been led by Pinto and Smith in Dimon's absence. Dimon, the longest-tenured CEO of an American megabank, told CNBC in January that he hoped to serve five more years. Shares of JPMorgan have been pummeled in the past week, along with the rest of the banking industry, amid the worsening coronavirus outbreak.

Bank CEOs convene in Washington for meeting with President Trump on coronavirus response

The leaders of the biggest U.S. banks are scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump on Wednesday afternoon as the U.S. government grapples with the spread of the coronavirus. CEOs expected to attend the 3 p.m. Gordon Smith, co-president of JPMorgan Chase, the biggest U.S. bank, will attend in place of CEO Jamie Dimon, who is recovering from heart surgery. One CEO not expected to attend is Morgan Stanley's James Gorman, who recently engineered a $13 billion takeover of E-Trade.

Citigroup's Corbat says 'this is not a financial crisis' during Trump meeting with Wall Street execs

Citigroup CEO Michael Corbat said Wednesday that the current turmoil caused by the coronavirus isn't stemming from the financial system. "This is not a financial crisis," Corbat said during a White House meeting. The 2008 financial crisis was caused in part by excessive bank leverage and irresponsible mortgage lending. Gordon Smith, co-president of JPMorgan Chase, the biggest U.S. bank, attended in place of CEO Jamie Dimon, who is recovering from heart surgery. Smith said Wednesday that Dimon was "doing well" and added that JPMorgan customers were still shopping and spending money at restaurants.

JPMorgan says CEO Jamie Dimon is recuperating after emergency heart surgery

JPMorgan said Thursday that CEO Jamie Dimon is recuperating after having emergency heart surgery to repair an acute aortic dissection. Co-presidents Daniel Pinto and Gordon Smith sent a memo to employees and shareholders which said Dimon underwent successful emergency heart surgery and was alert and doing well:"We want to let you know that Jamie experienced an acute aortic dissection this morning. He underwent successful emergency heart surgery to repair the dissection. The good news is that it was caught early and the surgery was successful. Pinto and Smith will be jointly leading the company as Dimon, 63, recuperates, the memo said.
