5 things you probably didn’t know about Jack White
After a not-so-funny opening monologue from comedian Bill Burr on this past weekend’s “SNL,” the show needed someone to save it, and guitarist and singer Jack White did just that. Backed by only a drummer (with the coolest drum kit ever) and bassist, Jack White dipped back into his extensive back catalogue of songs, and played some classics. And if you’ve been rocking out to The White Stripes since 1999, you probably already appreciate all of these things. White first saw a rise to fame with his duo The White Stripes. On the bright side, that didn’t stop Jack White from still making music.
Jack White to replace Morgan Wallen as 'SNL' musical guest
NEW YORK – Jack White will be the last-minute replacement musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” after country singer Morgan Wallen was dropped for breaking COVID-19 protocols. Wallen was removed as musical guest on Thursday after TikTok videos showed him partying last weekend without a mask on among a large group of people. Lorne Michaels announced White as a fill-in Friday on the “Today” show. “Saturday Night Live,” which will be hosted this Saturday by comedian Bill Burr, resumed live in-studio shows last weekend with a smaller live audience. Guests were required to take a COVID-19 test and temperature check at arrival, and wear masks inside the building.
Musicians are feeling the Bern
(CNN) - Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders may be focusing his energy on trying to win over voters in early primary states, but a variety of musicians have shown that they are listening, too. Brad Corrigan and Chad Stokes Urmston performed at Sanders' rally in New Hampshire and shared their support. "We're really proud to stand with Sen. Bernie Sanders as he attempts to bring America back to the people. The Sanders campaign, of course, has incorporated other celebrities into their campaign. The rapper tweeted earlier that month: "I been reading about Bernie Sanders and I'm really sad how we let him down in 2016."
Jack White attended baseball game, left to play concert, then returned to finish watching game
The baseball gods must have been on White's side, because the game went deep into the night with extra innings, so White returned to the game with his band after the show to see the game out. FOX reporter Ken Rosenthal noticed White's return to the stadium when cameras showed him back in his seat during the 14th inning. Here's the video of Ken's story, The Raconteurs played The Anthem in DC tonight, google tells me. pic.twitter.com/kcc5fSWXwN Paid man gets bored (@cjzero) August 18, 2019It's a mystery how White found out the game was still going on (maybe the MLB app told him? ), or how he and his bandmates even gained re-entry to the stadium, but it does look like White had the best night of his life.
Blondie covered 'Old Town Road' and you have to hear it
Without a doubt, "Old Town Road" is the official song of the summer. Blondie is currently on a co-headlining tour with Elvis Costello and has been playing the No. Blondie's cover doesn't sound anything like the original (the band slowed down the song and added a lot more moody guitars), but to hear Debbie Harry sing the lyrics of "Old Town Road" is pretty priceless. ), so you're just going to have to see Blondie on tour when they come to a city near you to hear this unironic cover.
