A California agency on Thursday cleared the way for the Oakland Athletics to continue planning a $12 billion waterfront ballpark project. The San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission voted 23-2 to reclassify a 56-acre terminal at the Port of Oakland as a mixed-use area where a new ballpark could be built. Too soon for data, California reopens more businesses
Now some California health officials are wondering if that's still the case as he moves rapidly through his four phases for reopening. In less than 10 days, Newsom has announced rules allowing 47 of the state's 58 counties to reopen restaurants and malls, religious services and, as of Tuesday, hair salons. California has had nearly 100,000 cases of the virus and more than 3,800 people have died. California Health and Human Services Secretary Mark Ghaly said the state guidance is "not a direction or a determination" that a county should allow certain businesses to reopen. Other Democrats supported Newsom's move, including Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, who represents parts of Orange County, which was also cleared to reopen restaurants over the weekend.
