Denny Hamlin won the race off pit road with Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Martin Truex Jr. after a caution with two laps to go and won in overtime at Richmond Raceway.

Much to the pleasure of the fans at Richmond Raceway, the hometown favorite from Chesterfield, Va., took the lead in the Toyota Owners 400 from William Byron with five laps remaining and held off the field for a .552-second victory over Kevin Harvick and Byron.

His confidence was correct as Keselowski indeed won Saturday night at Richmond, the second playoff race, and advanced into the second next round. Harvick, the title favorite, won last week’s opener to earn the automatic berth into the second round. Harvick, Hamlin and Keselowski are the only drivers locked into the next round of the playoffs. Harvick finished seventh.

The victory completed a redemptive finish for Truex, the championship leader coming into the race. Truex also gained a sweep of the season at Richmond, where his victory in April was his first in 81 career starts on a short track.
