33 players left in arbitration as 170 reach agreements

A total of 170 major league players agreed to contracts in the hours before Friday night’s arbitration deadline to exchange proposed salaries with teams, and just one reached a multiyear deal: Minnesota right-hander Chris Paddack.

Vinnie Pasquantino hit his first major league home run and Hunter Dozier followed with a drive into the bullpen, leading Brad Keller and the Kansas City Royals over the Detroit Tigers 3-1.

D-backs match MLB record with 22nd straight road loss

The Arizona Diamondbacks dropped their 22nd straight road game, matching the 1963 Mets and ’43 Philadelphia Athletics for the major league record with a 13-7 loss to the San Francisco Giants.

Scherzer faces deGrom in spring game, rematch on opening day

Scherzer will make his Nationals-record sixth opening day start April 1, facing the New York Mets in Washington. The original lineup released by Washington before the game featured a designated hitter; that was revised to include Scherzer batting for himself. DeGrom struck him out, part of his 4 2/3 scoreless innings with three hits and five Ks. YANKEES 8, BLUE JAYS 3Gerritt Cole struck out eight in five innings, allowing one run in his fourth spring start for New York. BRAVES 11, RAYS 1Atlanta starter Max Fried gave up three hits and struck out five over six innings.

Tatis Jr., Grisham power Padres to 6-2 win vs. Diamondbacks

San Diego Padres' Fernando Tatis Jr. hits a three-RBI triple fourth inning of a baseball game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Monday, July 27, 2020, in San Diego. The Padres, who feel theyre built for success in this pandemic-shortened 60-game season, outscored the Diamondbacks 21-9 in the four games. San Diego hasnt been to the playoffs since winning consecutive NL West titles in 2005-06. The highlight was Tatis hitting a ball to left-center that rolled to the wall, bringing in three runs to give San Diego a 6-2 lead. After Tatis triple, Weaver struck out Grisham and made way for Taylor Clarke.

Davis hits 3rd spring HR, Judge more tests, Buehler sharp

In 2018, Davis hit only .168 with 16 home runs and 49 RBIs, striking out 192 times in 128 games. Matthew Boyd made his second start for Detroit, striking out four in three shutout innings. Paul DeJong hit his second spring home run. Swingman Ross Stripling, who debuted a new changeup in his spring debut Monday, allowed one hit over two innings in his second start. ATHLETICS (SS) 8, INDIANS (SS) 6Tony Kemp had three hits and Matt Chapman drove in two runs for the A's.
