Haniewich visits Hollins Volunteer Fire & Rescue

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – Stop 11 on the Virginia Proud Weather Tour took Jeff Haniewich to Roanoke County.

Jeff spent time Tuesday at the Hollins Volunteer Fire & Rescue.

Fire & Rescue crews in Roanoke County respond to more than 16,000 calls a year.

Chief Stephen Simon explained to Jeff the importance of the department's summer safety program.

One important tip is for both children and adults to wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. Another is making sure anyone who owns a swimming pool has a locked fence.

Lastly, Simon talked about hiking safety and the importance of being well-prepared.

Jeff also had the chance to climb the ladder during the stop.

Stop 12 on the tour will take Jeff to Giles County.
