Blood pressure can be a "silent killer"

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) -  10 Cares about your heart health. Blood pressure can be a silent killer that's why doctors say it's important to know your numbers. The American Heart Association says more than 20-percent of people with high blood pressure don't even know.

"For the most part it's sort of a silent killer so to speak because if you don't check it and if you don't know it's high, it's just high and you feel fine yet it doesn't change the fact that it's causing negative affects in the body. That's the importance of maintaining blood pressure that's within a normal range is reducing the risk of not only heart disease but also vascular disease as well," said Dr. Ijeoma Okogbue with Carilion Clinic cardiology.

Normal blood pressure is 120 over 80.  High blood pressure is manageable but you have to know you have it first so meet with your doctor if you have questions.
