ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A man was hospitalized and two men are in custody after a shooting Sunday.

Scott Leamon with the Roanoke Police Department said officers were called after someone heard shots being fired in the 2100 block of Wayne Street NE around 10:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a 33-year-old victim who appeared to have been shot.

Leamon said the victim pointed officers in the direction where the shooter ran. That's when they found Elliot Darnell Smith, 35, and took him in for questioning.

Smith is now charged with malicious wounding and is being held at the Roanoke City Jail without bond. Another suspect in the shooting, Charles Lee Thompson, 28, has also been charged with malicious wounding.

Search warrants filed at the Roanoke Circuit Court show Smith had blood on his shirt and shoes when police found him. Officers also took Smith's cell phone in an effort to determine whether others may be involved in the shooting.

Police say the victim is still in the hospital. No word on his condition.
