ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - A restaurant once considered an icon in the Star City was torn down Thursday after sitting vacant for several years.

The Little Chef Restaurant  on Williamson Road near Orange Avenue closed in 2012 after being open for more than 50 years.

It was known for its comfort food and late-night breakfast options.

According to Thomas Brothers, the company overseeing the demolition, the building was in bad shape and the owner decided it was best to tear it down. There are no immediate plans to build on the lot.
