ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The City of Roanoke and Valley Metro will host a public meeting Thursday about the future of transportation in Downtown Roanoke. With Amtrak coming to the Star City in 2017, a train station is needed.
Leaders are considering a number of options for the station, including building a Multi-Modal Station. That station would be a hub for both trains and buses.

It could also serve as a center for taxis and other forms of transportation. The location of the platform for the Amtrak train has already been selected.
It will be located along Norfolk Avenue near the Martin Luther King Bridge.
Chris Chittum, the Director of Planning, Building and Development for Roanoke City, says the project team is looking at property nearby for the potential center.
Chittum says the project would cost millions of dollars. At Thursday's meeting, the public is welcome to share their ideas for a transportation center with the project team.
The meeting will take place from 4-7 p.m. at Valley Metro located at 31 Campbell Avenue.
