SALEM (WSLS 10) - A local group of healthcare offices will soon be part of Carilion Clinic.

On Tuesday, it was announced that PCA Healthcare will become part of Carilion in June.

The healthcare giant will add five facilities in Salem, Daleville and Floyd along with 17 physicians.

Those clinics will stay open and operational once the acquisition is complete.

"It just seemed to fit together like a glove," said Dr. Ted Polverino, President of PCA Healthcare. "As we started talking about the future of healthcare, where we wanted to be, where we thought primary care would be, it just really fit together."

It's a point echoed by Dr. Michael Jeremiah, Carilion Clinic's Chairman of the Department of Family and Community Medicine.

"(PCA Healthcare) wants to be evidence based," he said. "They want to incorporate teaching opportunities and training of new family physicians and new primary care physicians. That fits exactly with what we're doing."

Jeremiah and Polverino say the transition will not have an impact on patient care, but will give more options with specialists within the Carilion network.
