MCCLURE, VA (WJHL) - A miner at Alpha Natural Resources affiliate Paramount Coal Company died from an injury at Deep Mine 41 near McClure, Va. Monday.
According to an Alpha Natural Resources news release, David Brummitte, 34, of Pound, Va., was found around 5:10 a.m., was treated at the scene and then taken to Dickenson Community Hospital in Clintwood, Va., where he was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m.

Brummitte had worked for Paramount for two years at Deep Mine 41 and was a certified workplace examiner.
According to the release, preliminary information suggests that he was conducting a pre-shift exam when he was hit by rock sloughing off the mine wall.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with David's family," Kevin Crutchfield, Alpha chairman and CEO, said. "Words cannot express how deeply saddened our company and community are by this tragic event."
Paramount Coal Company President Mike Clark said, "Our hearts go out to Mr. Brummitte's family and friends."
Clark added that there does not appear to have been any eyewitnesses at the scene and said they are working with state and federal agencies to confirm the circumstances of the accident.
According to the release, Paramount Coal Company representatives, as well as state and federal investigators are currently securing the area to complete the accident investigation.
