ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Business and community leaders from across the Roanoke Valley "did a little time and a lot of good" to help save and improve the lives of people fighting muscular dystrophy.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association's Lock-Up fundraising event raised more than $80,000 on Tuesday.

More than 250 valley V.I.P.s volunteered to "go behind bars" as part of MDA's Lock-Up event Tuesday, April 28 at the Salem Red Sox VIP Club Lounge.
During the event, participants — "Jailbirds" — were locked up for one hour as they attempted to raise "bail" by encouraging friends, family, and co-workers to make a contribution to directly benefit MDA families in SW and Central Virginia.
Organizers said the event was in honor of those battling ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease; a horrible disease that attacks all of the muscles that make us living and functioning human beings.
Funds raised through Lock-Up donations help the Muscular Dystrophy Association create a world free from the harmful effects of muscle diseases that often take away people's ability to walk, move, talk, smile and even breathe, officials say.
