After 29 years, Kings Dominion is retiring the Shockwave

DOSWELL, Va. (WRIC) — If you're a roller-coaster fan, especially of stand up roller-coasters you have until Sunday, August 9 to ride the Shockwave.

The Shockwave is one of the oldest operating stand up roller coasters in the country.

But, in one month, the coaster will be put in mothballs.

"We're always looking to grow and expand and look for the next exciting thing so you have to stay tuned for that," said Kings Dominion communications manager Katelyn Curry."There are big shoes to fill here. We will miss Shockwave — it's given us 29 years of memories."

According to Kings Dominion over 22 million riders have stood up to their fears on Shockwave.
