Linkous was a World War II veteran. He is described by those who worked with him as a loving husband, faithful church member and a dedicated public servant.

During his time as an elected leader, the Christiansburg Town Hall, recreation center, acquatic center and Harkrader Sports Complex were built.

Christiansburg's current mayor, Mike Barber, says Linkous was a mentor and a great friend.

Linkous saw the town of Christiansburg grow during his tenure from about 8,000 residents to more than 20,000.
