RADFORD (WSLS 10) - From Radford University to the Little River Dam, the New River Valley was hit hard with rain and flooding Tuesday.
Students at Radford University said it was a rude awakening.

"I woke up, wanted to go outside and sit, but no, that didn't happen," student Meghan Hodges said.
Radford University students received an email warning them to be on the lookout for heavy rain. The school closed down lot-Z on Friday, which has been notorious for flooding thanks to its location next to the new river.
Student Alan Ward explained, "I've seen it flood twice since I've been here, just in three years, where students have to get up in the middle of the night sometimes to go move their cars."
Crews had to fix a few minor leaks around campus, but classes went on as usual. Students said getting there was another story.
"I have an eight-minute walk to one of my classes later, so it's just not fun," Hodges said.
In other parts of the NRV, drivers had only one lane where they should have had two. Muddy water bubbled up onto Smith Creek Road near Riner and water crept up onto Little River Dam Road in Pulaski County.
Police and university leaders were asking everyone to be aware of their surroundings, asking them not to drive through standing water if possible and brace for more potential rain.
