ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The Roanoke City Sheriff's Office and the Roanoke City Police Department are investigating an apparent inmate suicide.
Authorities say Clifton Antonio Harper was found unresponsive around 1 p.m. Monday, December 7.

A Roanoke City Sheriff's Deputy says Harper was found hanging in his cell by his bed sheet. Police immediately administrated CPR and contacted the Jail Medical Staff and 911.
The Emergency Medical Services later transported him to the hospital.
Harper was pronounced dead on December 8 at 6:50 p.m. The incident remains under investigation.
Harper was being held since March on multiple charges including burglary, grand larceny and assault.
