UPDATE: Officer involved shooting in Roanoke Co. under investigation

ROANOKE CO. (WSLS 10) -  Roanoke County police have confirmed that the suspect in Friday night's officer-involved shooting is deceased. According to Amy Whitaker, Roanoke County Public Imformation Officer, the suspect died Friday night at the hospital. The identity has not been released, pending family notification. Officers were placed on administrative leave, as is normal departmental policy following officer-involved shootings said Whitaker.

Roanoke County Police continue to investigate the officer-involved shooting near the Walgreens on Brambleton Ave. and Electric Rd. Police say they received a call Friday around 7:15 p.m. about a male who was in the street with a gun.

When officers arrived on scene, they told him to put the gun down. That's when police say shots were fired. The suspect was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. No officers were hurt.

Part of 419 is closed as officers continue their investigation.
