MONTGOMERY COUNTY (WSLS10)-- Sean Ball, one of two suspects accused of killing a man in April, pleads guilty to first degree murder charges.

He appeared in Montgomery County circuit court at 9 a.m. for a plea hearing. The judge sentenced him to 60 years in prison. He will serve 41 years and one month of that sentence, then be placed on 10 years probation.

Before being sentenced, Ball made a statement. He said that he was sorry to everyone involved, especially to the family of Charles Taylor, and to his own family. Ball says his family has always done their best for him and this was no way to show them gratitude. He went on to say that he will try to better himself and do something with his life after this.

The Commonwealth attorney said Ball confessed to entering Charles Taylor's home with a tire iron hidden in the back of his pants and hitting Taylor with the tire iron 5 to 6 times while Amanda Taylor was stabbing him. He says Charles Taylor was trying to reach for Amanda's bayonet, and Ball did not want her to get hurt. He says Ball felt protective of Amanda Taylor and he had promised that if she ended up killing someone, he would go on the run with her.

He says Amanda Taylor also wanted to kill Charles Taylor's father, who lived in the home as well, but Ball convinced her not to do so. Ball then attempted suicide in North Carolina by overdosing on pills. He says the next thing he remembers is waking up after being shot in the face.

Amanda Taylor has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
