(WSLS 10) - The Roanoke City Sheriff's Office and staff from the Attorney General's Office holds the first meeting of Roanoke City TRIAD today. TRIED is a program that works to improve the quality of life for senior community members through crime prevention and education program. The meeting kicks off at 1 p.m. at the Raleigh Court Library.
Christiansburg Parks and Recreation holds a Senior Citizen Care Fair today. Vendors will setup at the Rec Center from 8:30 a.m. to noon to give information about programs and services available to senior citizens. There will also be health screenings and safety information.
The Campbell County Board of Supervisors meets today to finalize its budget for the next year. The proposed budget is one percent less than this year with tax rates remaining the same. County employees will not receive a raise this year. County schools will receive $27.8 million from the county, which is about half a million dollars less than the current year.
The Franklin County Board of Supervisors receives and updates today on the Mountain Valley Pipeline Project. Mountain Valley Pipeline says it has completed 97 percent of the centerline surveying in Franklin County. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued an update on the project last month. The commission is expected to publish the draft version of the Environmental Impact Statement this summer before then holding public hearings. Minor revision could still be made to the route. Mountain Valley Pipeline says that the project remains on target for construction to begin late this year.
You can enjoy a free concert today as Roanoke Navy Week continues. The U.S. Fleet Forces Fleet Jazz Combo will perform at 11:45 a.m. on the lawn of the Roanoke Main Library. Members of the Navy will set up displays from 9 a.m. to noon at the Virginia Museum of Transportation. Admission to the museum is free today.
Christiansburg Park and Rec holds a drug prevention course tonight for parents. It focuses on drug use trends and issues in the region. Officers will talk about the different substances your children could be exposed to and how to recognize the warning signs of drug use.
