Suspicious item found at Roanoke Medical Examiner's office was duct tape

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - A Virginia State Police bomb unit determined that the suspicious item attached to a package was a large amount of duct tape.

Because the item initially appeared to be suspicious in appearance, the Medical Examiner's office took the appropriate action in notifying police to investigate, as a precaution, according to Amy Whittaker with Roanoke County.

The scene was clear by about 11:45 a.m.

At 9:40 a.m., a call was received to the 911 Center that a suspicious item was found in the Medical Examiner's Office.

As a precaution, the lab building was evacuated and Northside High School Road was closed.
