The first full day of competition at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games was exciting from start -- shooter Ginny Thrasher earned the Games' first gold medal for the United States on Saturday morning -- to finish -- in the nightcap, Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross were dominant in their Olympic debut as partners.

In between, we saw the U.S. women's soccer and men's basketball squads earn statement victories, the Brazilian men's gymnastics team make national history (alongside a strong showing from the U.S. men's gymnasts), Venus Williams, Jack Sock and Agnieszka Radwanska suffer stunning early exits on the tennis courts, Hungarian swimmer Katinka Hosszu earn her elusive first Olympic medal -- gold in the women's 400m IM -- and Australia's dominant swimming sisters, Cate and Bronte Campbell, lead the Aussies past Katie Ledecky and the U.S. for gold in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay.
