CHATHAM (WSLS 10) - A Chatham High School teacher is one of eight finalists for state teacher of the year.
Jason Ince became a finalist by being selected as the Regional Teacher of the Year for the 15-district region which includes Pittsylvania County.
On Tuesday morning, the district's superintendent and other school officials presented Ince with balloons, a banner and a plaque.
He was one of 6,600 teachers in his region nominated for the regional teacher of the year award.
Ince teaches shop and FFA and has been a teacher at the high school for 15 years.
"Just having an opportunity to come in here every single day and work with the students in Pittsylvania County and our FFA students, it's a humbling experience," Ince said.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Jones said Ince's recognition speaks highly about the quality of the school district's teachers.
"We're very proud of the teachers that we have. Very dedicated, hard-working, and he is truly an example of that."
The winner of the state teacher of the year award will be announced in October.
