Salvation Army starts prayer tree tradition

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The Salvation Army of the Roanoke Valley added a new tradition to the Christmas season this year.

Capt. Monica Seiler started a prayer tree. Anyone can come into the headquarters in southeast Roanoke, hang a gold ornament on the tree to represent their prayer request, and when it's answered they replace the ornament with a red bow.

"It's just a visual representation that God is hearing, that God is moving around us and it's an encouraging thing for everybody to see that even as you look at the tree right now there are a lot of gold balls on there, but there are also some of the red bows," she explained.

Seiler actually got the idea from the last Salvation Army she worked at in Tennessee.
