I-81 reopens after accident in Rockbridge County

UPDATE:  Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County is open again after a tractor-trailer fire shut it down this morning.

State police believe the fire was started when the truck's brakes got too hot.


Crews say the crash involved a commercial tractor trailer that was carrying grocery store items.

The fire is contained but is not out yet. Crews are waiting for someone to get to the scene and offload the trailer's cargo.


ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Crews are working to clear a tractor-trailer fire on Interstate 81.

State Police says it the call came in at about 6:58 a.m. Monday morning near mile-marker 191 in Rockbridge County.

All north lanes are currently closed, according to VDOT, and backups are about one mile. Police say the left lane should open soon.
