Nelson County man dies after crash on Route 666

Police say he was not wearing a seat belt

NELSON COUNTY, Va. – A Nelson County man is dead after a crash on Route 666, according to state police.

The single-vehicle crash happened at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say a 1999 Infinity I-30 sedan was traveling north on Route 666, about a quarter mile north of Route 630, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, ran off the left side of the road, struck a tree and overturned in a creek.

The driver, Jamie L. Mays, 35, of Lowesville, Virginia, was the only person in the car and he was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital where he died on Thursday.

Police say he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. 

The crash remains under investigation.
