Part of the Huckleberry Trail will close today through Thursday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The trail will close at the Route 460 underpass near Southgate Drive in Blacksburg. A crane will be set up on the path to be used for nearby road work.
Eat out today and help a good cause. All Chipotle restaurants in Virginia will give a portion of proceeds to the American Cancer Society. You will need to mention the fundraiser at the register. Chipotle will give 50 percent of sales to the organization, which helps the 1.6 million Americans diagnosed with cancer each year.

A team of junior and senior girls will face tonight at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the game is $3 or a donation of a six-pack of Ramen Noodles, a jar of peanut butter or a box of fruit snacks. Proceeds benefit Home for the Holidays, which benefits elementary school kids in Blacksburg who are on free and reduced lunch.
Governor Terry McAuliffe will travel to Roanoke today. He will join leaders from Virginia Tech, Carilion Clinic and the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute to announce the beginning of construction of the biomedical research expansion. As we've reported, the 139,000 square foot addition will feature research areas that range from brain health and infectious diseases to obesity issues and cancer.
The Greenfield Preservation Advisory Commission will issue its final report today to the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors. The commission was formed last year to make recommendations for the restoration, presentation and interpretation of archaeological and historic resources found at Greenfield. When finished, there will be a series of new trails and restored buildings.

The Rockbridge area Chamber of Commerce will hold a discussion with candidates for two seats on the Board of Supervisors, Clerk of Court and the 24 district House of Delegates. Help local animals and enjoy a great meal. The Roanoke Valley SPCA holds its annual SPAYghetti lunch and dinner today. Your ticket gets you spaghetti, bread, salad and a drink. There's also a bake sale and a wine and craft beer bar. For every six meals sold, an animals leaves the shelter spayed or neutered. Tickets are $10 at the door with proceeds benefiting the SPCA. Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
Jefferson College of Health Sciences celebrates its 35th anniversary today. Carilion President Nancy Agee will speak at tonight's event. The college was the first hospital based college in Virginia.
A Danville man, who pleaed guilty to aiding in the preparation of false tax returns will be sentenced in federal court today. According to court documents, Timothy Harris owned and operated TNA Tax Services and TNT Tax Services. According to the U.S. Attorneys office, Harris admitted to using the businesses to prepare the false returns for clients that claimed bogus business losses in order to get refunds for his clients, resulting in a tax loss greater than $250,000. The maximum sentence is three years in prison.
Today is Dr. Pepper Day in Roanoke, after its legendary slogan, "Drink a Bite to Eat at 10, 2 and 4." From 11 a.m to 2 p.m. today, there will be free drinks, t-shirts and other goodies given out in downtown Roanoke. City Councilman David Trinkle will present Dr. Pepper with the city's official declaration in Market Square.
Virginia State Police will debut a new public service announcement today at Martinsville Speedway. It will highlight the state's Move Over law, and will first air this weekend during the First Data 500 at Martinsville Speedway. The law requires drivers to change lanes when an emergency vehicle is stopped with its lights on. Over the past decade, 127 law enforcement officers have been hit and killed nationwide while working on the roadside.
