Roanoke police: Stray bullet hits woman's car after drive-by shooting

The woman had a cut on her lip but is not badly injured

ROANOKE, Va. – Roanoke police are investigating after a woman's vehicle was hit by a stray bullet in a drive-by shooting.

It happened around 4 p.m. Saturday on Cove Road.

A 42-year-old Franklin County woman was driving there when her vehicle was hit by a bullet. She was treated at the scene for a cut on her lip. She did not want to be taken to the hospital.

Officers interviewed eyewitnesses who said a white SUV had fired shots at a gold Chevy Malibu in the area of Cove Road and Fairhope Road NW, which was also in the vicinity of where the victim was driving when her vehicle was hit. Neither vehicle stopped.

At this time it appears a stray bullet from that incident hit the victim's vehicle, according to police.

Roanoke County Police found a gold Chevy Malibu on Sunday that appeared to have been damaged by gunfire. The unoccupied car was located in the 4700 block of Oakcliff Drive.

Police have not yet made any arrests.
