PULASKI COUNTY, Va. – Claytor Lake State Park is preparing for a busy New Year's Day of hikes and activities.
On January 1, state parks all across Virginia will offer free parking and admission to encourage visitors to spend the first day of 2018 outdoors.Â
Claytor Lake will be offering a special tree bark hike and self-guided hikes during the day, plus warm refreshments. Park staff say the day is the perfect way to bring in locals and out-of-towners and remind them how important it is to get outside.Â
"It's a great way to start off the year. We get a great turnout on the first day hikes and what better way to spend the first day of the year than to come out and hike out here in the park," said Ryan Stubblebine, chief ranger for Claytor Lake State Park.
