Two men arrested for weekend murder in Axton

Jake Lewis arrested in Texas; Dylan Day arrested in North Carolina

SAN MARCOS, Tx. – Two North Carolina men are behind bars, charged with killing a Henry County man Saturday.

According to the Henry County Sheriff's Office, Jake Lewis, 23, was arrested Tuesday in San Marcos, Texas.

San Marcos is just south of Austin.

Dylan Day, 18 was arrested in Rockingham County, North Carolina Wednesday according to the Henry County Sheriff's Office.

Both men are from Reidsville and both are charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony for the death of Eric Adams, 37, at Adams' home.

The sheriff's office says surveillance video from the home shows Lewis being invited inside around midnight Saturday.

Adams' father found Adams shot to death in the home Sunday afternoon.

What led to the murder is still unclear.

The sheriff's office says Day's role in the murder was to help Lewis take items from Adams' home after the murder.

The sheriff's office also says Day was one of three people seen waiting in a car outside the home while Lewis was inside with Adams.

The other two people in the car have not been identified and are still being sought.

Wednesday afternoon, 10 News spoke to Adams' sister, Teadra Adams, over the phone and was the first person to tell the family that arrests had been made.

"Everybody's so happy and just relieved that we got the man who put that bullet in my brother unnecessarily," Adams said.

"Just to know that Henry County was on the job, they didn't fail us -- maybe some of us maybe had a little doubt -- they proved us wrong and we're just overjoyed."

A candlelight vigil in honor of Eric is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Baptist Church in Axton.
