ROANOKE, Va. – Roanoke County emergency crews responded to a reported gas leak at an apartment complex on Thursday night
Crews were at the Bent Creek Apartments in the Hollins area of the county.
Firefighters evacuated one apartment building with 12 units and about 20 people waited outside while crews shut off the main gas line to the building and ventilated the affected units, according to Jennifer Conley Sexton, with the fire department.
Testing was then conducted by the gas company and deemed safe for residents to re-enter.
The gas will remain shut off to this building until property maintenance fixes the leak.
Residents will be without appliances requiring gas including stove, hot water, heat, and dryer.
Emergency crews left the apartment complex at 10:30 p.m.
