LEE COUNTY, Va. – UPDATE
Authorities are now investigating the death of a man and woman found dead in a car on the side of the road in Lee County Sunday as a murder-suicide, according to Virginia State Police.

A spokeswoman with Virginia State Police says investigators have confirmed that the shootings happened inside the car.
Smith and Connery were cousins.
The incident remains under investigation.

State police have identified the victims as 21-year-old Duffield resident Bailey S. Smith and 26-year-old Coolville, Ohio resident Emeri A. Connery.

A man and woman were found dead with gunshot wounds in a car on the side of the road in Lee County early Sunday morning, according to Virginia State Police.
Troopers said they were responding to a call around 4 a.m. for a traffic crash on Route 23 near mile marker 28. The vehicle had been traveling north when it ran off the highway and into the median.
When they arrived, they found a man and woman dead in the car. Upon closer inspection, troopers realized that the victims had both been shot.
A medical examiner in Roanoke will perform the autopsies.
The man and woman have not yet been identified.
