ROANOKE, Va. – Two dogs lost their lives in a house fire Wednesday morning in Southeast Roanoke, according to Roanoke Fire-EMS.
At about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, crews were sent to the 1500 block of Wilson Street SE and found the home engulfed in flames.
“Around about 7:30 this morning, the fire department received a 911 call about a house fire on the fifteen hundred block of Wilson Street,” Roanoke Fire-EMS Chief David Hoback said. “Shortly after that we got calls about the fire blowing out of the front portion of the house and the windows were breaking, so we upgraded it to a working fire.”
Neighbors quickly warned each other that the fire was happening.
“My neighbor on the other side of the house called me hysterically knowing that my dog was at home and asked me for the code to my house and that the neighbor’s house was on fire,” Teresa McFaul said.
Firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the fire and search the home, bringing the blaze under control by 8:05 a.m.
Unfortunately, two dogs did not survive, but thankfully, there were no other injuries reported.
The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the incident to uncover the cause of the fire.
