Victim identified after deadly US 221 crash in Bedford County

Crash happened shortly before 10 a.m.

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police released the name of the 78-year-old Huddleston man who died in a crash on US 221 on Monday morning.

A 2015 Volkswagen Passat was traveling north on Forest Road when it hit a 2020 Freightliner tractor trailer that was stopped at the intersection, according to state police.

The Passat’s driver, Horace Ellis, died at the scene. Police said he was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured and police said he too was also wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.

One person is dead after a crash in Bedford County on Monday morning.

Two vehicles collided near the intersection of Forest Road and Cottontown Road, where Lynchburg Nissan and CVS are located, shortly before 10 a.m., according to Virginia State Police.

State police have not yet released the name of the person who died.

The crash remains under investigation.
