Roanoke gym studio opens just in time for New Year’s fitness resolutions

Ferguson Fitness is ready for the new year by opening it’s new studio.

ROANOKE Va. – Hitting the gym tends to be one of the most popular New Year’s resolution.

Therefore, it’s not surprising to spot a crowd at the gym during January.

But don’t let that deter you from working off those holiday calories.

With new ropes weighing 20 pounds more and brand-new equipment still being installed, Ferguson Fitness is ready for the new year.

Opening its new studio doors Friday, the project was originally set to open on Halloween, but it turned into a nearly year-long project with snowstorm setbacks.

However, the chaos is now a laughable memory that co-owner Anthony Ferguson will always cherish.

“My dad is helping us, his wife is helping us. And literally we watched the ball drop in here as we are finishing things,” he said.

Designed for all ages with monkey bars, weights and a rock wall coming soon, Ferguson said his facility is ready for you.

He said when people make the choice to live a healthier lifestyle, other milestones seem to fall in place.

“Like getting a job promotion,” he said. “I see them enjoying more time with their family and friends. I see them exercising, trying new things, going on adventures, going to races, getting medals.”

Coronavirus safety is still on Ferguson’s mind as there are several hand-sanitizer dispensers throughout the facility.

Social distancing won’t be much of a problem either with plenty of space both indoors and outdoors.

Just off Franklin Road and near the Roanoke River, Ferguson plans to host more outside classes, but will also continue online training sessions.

If you want to get a taste of the workout, Ferguson is hosting a free workshop on Saturday.
