BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – A 24-year-old Lynchburg man is in jail after a chase early on New Year’s Day that began in Lynchburg and ended in Bedford County, according to authorities.
At 1:35 a.m., the Lynchburg Police Department alerted the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office that a vehicle its officers were pursuing on U.S. 460 was heading in Bedford County.

The person being pursued was wanted in connection with an assault and battery investigation, according to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.
Once Bedford County deputies joined the pursuit, the pursued driver, hit a county EMS vehicle twice before he was able to pass it, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Eventually, deputies used spike strips to disable the suspect’s vehicle and arrested the suspect, Darius Antonio Johnson.
In Bedford County, Johnson is charged with felony eluding, felony assault and battery of EMS and driving without a license.
Additional charges may be pending against Johnson in Lynchburg, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
