Petition wants to leave Roanoke City School Board appointments up to voters this fall

Petition requires more than 6,500 signatures by July 14

ROANOKE, Va. – There’s a petition to change how Roanoke City selects school board members.

Currently, members are interviewed and appointed by the city council.

A Roanoke man filed a petition in court asking to put the choice up to voters on a referendum in the next general election on November 2.

The organizer of the petition needs to collect more than 6,500 signatures from registered voters by July 14.
