Salvation Army’s ‘Angel Trees’ return, bringing holiday spirit to Lynchburg’s River Ridge Mall

The international program started in the Hill City 41 years ago

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree campaign is back at River Ridge Mall in Lynchburg, where they’re expecting to give away about 1,000 gifts this holiday season.

The international program started in the Hill City 41 years ago to help children in need experience the Christmas spirit.

You can now ‘adopt an angel’ by taking one of the tags off a tree. Each one is marked with a child’s name and the gift they’re requesting.

You’re asked to purchase the gift by Dec. 15 so the Salvation Army can deliver them.

“You return [the gift] to the tree with the tag. You may place it under the tree, and our staff is picking up the packages every hour and returning them to a storage room where they are secure,” said Louise Dudley, general manager of River Ridge Mall.

The mall is also participating in the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign. Volunteers will be collecting monetary donations at the mall entrances beginning Dec. 13.
