Lynchburg health clinic receives a $100,000 grant to enhance its dental care options

The funding came from The Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Thanks to a sizable grant, the Free Clinic of Central Virginia will soon be able to offer better dental care to its patients.

The Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation awarded a $100,000 grant to the Lynchburg clinic, which also received grants of $20,000 from the Al Stroobants Foundation and a $16,200 grant from the Centra Community Benefit.

The clinic provides essential health care services to those underserved in the community.

These funds will be put towards the clinic’s urgent dental care program, allowing it to hire a dentist, train staff and work with Centra to develop longer-term plans for addressing dental pain in the emergency department.

“As a former Emergency Department nurse, I know how many people seek dental pain care at the emergency room. The impact on our community from this project will be profound, as access to same-day dental care, especially for the underinsured, is nearly non-existent in our community. This will be a game-changer for people with dental pain,” said the clinic’s interim CEO, Jen Webb.

These grants allow for the clinic to continue its mission, launched in 1987, to provide optimal individual and community wellness.
