BLACKSBURG, Va. – Fresh off the program’s first ACC Men’s Basketball title, the red-hot Hokies have their fans fired up.
“I was just so proud; I just felt a lot of pride. I knew we were good, but I didn’t know we were that good,” said one student.
Virginia Tech became the lowest seed ever to win the tournament, as the number seven seed upset top-seeded Duke for the conference crown.
“Kind of magical in a sense, because you could tell the players worked really hard, the coaches were all happy,” said another fan. “The crowd was cheering pretty loud.”
Winning four games in four days, the Hokies were on a tear, and the hottest team in the ACC got a very warm welcome home as they brought the hardware back to Blacksburg.
“Got to watch the team roll off the bus, and they had the trophy there and they even brought some confetti and threw it into the crowd,” another fan said.
As tournament champs, Tech punched its ticket to the NCAA tournament for the fifth consecutive season. The 11th seeded Hokies will face number six seed Longhorns Friday in the first round.
“Everybody is really excited for the game on Friday now, it’s brought us together a lot,” added another.
With the big dance looming, fans are hoping the Hokies can continue to bring the heat, and torch Texas.
