DANVILLE, Va. – A 17-year-old girl is dead after a one-car crash in Danville on Monday night.

At about 10 p.m. in the 600 block of Henry Street, she was driving a black Toyota Corolla with three other teenagers in the car when she lost control and hit a block wall at a high rate of speed before the vehicle came to a stop, according to the Danville Police Department.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, while one of the passengers was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said that the other two teenagers in the car either refused or did not require treatment at the scene.

Upon investigation, police determined that just before the crash, the Corolla drove past a Danville police vehicle and was clocked going southbound at 76 mph on North Main Street, which is a 25-mph zone.

The officer made a U-turn to consider a traffic stop; however, because the Corolla was driving so quickly, police said the officer was unable to catch up and initiate a stop before the crash occurred.
