Authorities said the crash happened at 6:44 a.m. on Tuesday in the 4000 block of James D. Hagood Hwy.

A 2017 Chevrolet Malibu was going east when it ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, ran off the left side of the road, overturned several times, then struck a tree, VSP said.

The driver, 19-year-old Francisco Chavez, and the two passengers, 20-year-old Victor Mata and 20-year-old Joaquin Chavez, Jr. all died at the scene, according to authorities.

Police say that Mata was ejected from the vehicle and that none of the three people were wearing seatbelts.

Authorities said excessive speed is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
