Gov. Youngkin: Decision to vaccinate children against COVID-19 up to the parents

The CDC panel voted to add COVID-19 shots to recommended vaccinations on Thursday

RICHMOND, Va. – Governor Youngkin is responding to a new recommendation for COVID-19 vaccines.

On Thursday, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory committee voted to add COVID-19 shots to recommended vaccinations, according to the AP.

The CDC doesn’t have the authority to set school immunization requirements, as AP reported, and their vote doesn’t mandate the vaccination for those headed back to school, but the lists are something that state and local officials take into consideration when making school requirements.

Later Thursday evening, Governor Youngkin took to social media to respond to the recommendations made by the panel.

In the post, which you can see in full below, Youngkin said parents should have the choice to have their child or children vaccinated against COVID-19.

On Oct. 12, the CDC posted another recommendation to their Facebook page, which stated they recommend everyone 5 years old and older shoulder get an updated COVID-19 booster. You can see their post below.
