Danville police arrests man after robbery, pursuit

We’re told shots were fired during the incident, but no one was hurt

DANVILLE, Va. – A 39-year-old man has been arrested after a robbery and a brief police pursuit in Danville, according to the Danville Police Department.

Officers said that Barry Swanson, 39, was wanted for a robbery and dispute that happened on Feb. 10 that left one person hurt.

Police later saw Swanson on Parker Road, at which point he shot at the officers, according to DPD. We’re told one officer returned fire, and no one was hit by the gunfire during the incident.

Swanson then fled from Parker Road and was arrested after a brief pursuit in the 200 block of Greenwich Circle, police said.

Swanson was injured due to a car crash, and was transported from the scene, officers said.

The Danville Police Department said that since an officer returned fire during the incident, Virginia State Police will be handling the investigation.
