VSP: Del. Matt Fariss facing charges in connection with hit-and-run in Campbell County

Authorities say he turned himself in

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. – Del. Matt Fariss has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run in Campbell County, according to Virginia State Police.

Authorities say it happened on Thursday, March 2 on Route 501.

We’re told Fariss was driving south in a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe when he crossed the centerline, continued off the northbound side of Route 501 and hit a pedestrian before leaving the scene. The woman had minor injuries from the incident, State Police said.

According to VSP, Fariss later turned himself in and met the trooper at the magistrate’s office on Friday, March 3.

Officials have confirmed to 10 News that Fariss currently faces the following charges:

  • One count of malicious wounding
  • One felony count of hit and run
  • One count of reckless driving.

Fariss has been released on bond, State Police said.

The delegate represents Campbell County, Appomattox County, Buckingham County, Nelson County and Albemarle County.
